Tim Baillie MBE visits Grantham Additional Needs Federation
We are keeping the Olympic spirit alive for future generations with our new school sports field topped with artificial turf from the 2012 games. Pupils and staff at Grantham Additional Needs Federation also got to share one of Team GB’s golden moments with Olympian Tim Baillie, who came to open the brand new facility on 19th September!
Tim Baillie, Team GB’s slalom canoeing Gold medallist, heard what was happening and wanted to get involved, “"It's really cool that they are up-cycling some of the London 2012 venues in this manner and GANF do great work for kids with additional needs so they are a very worthy recipient. It's a great way off keeping the London 2012 buzz alive and extending the benefits of what was a great summer. It makes me very proud to be British when I hear that the legacy is being managed so well and hence I'm excited to have the opportunity to come along today and be part of the Sports day. An additional connection is that Pete Wilson won Gold on this actual turf that has been installed at GANF at almost exactly the same time as Etienne and I won at Lee Valley!"
The BBC News Teams were here from both Television and Radio, some of our pupils were lucky enough to get the chance to be interviewed on camera and see how the media work behind the scenes. To view the clip please click on the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOyzfYjDSCU
Peter Bell, Executive Head, enthused, “it has been an amazing day for all the pupils to experience. This wonderful new facility will enhance the quality of sport that can be delivered across the Federation”. "I would like to thank HB Sport and specifically Tim Baillie, who has made today such a memorable occasion for our pupils".
