GANF student visits Buckingham Palace!
Matthew Crow, a Sixth Form student at Sandon School, was fortunate enough to be invited to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
On 12 May 2016, by kind permission of Barnardo’s Patron Her Majesty the Queen, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall hosted a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the charity’s 150th anniversary. The event was to thank dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters for their hard work and commitment as well as celebrate the many achievements of the millions of people Barnardo’s has supported.
Princess Alexandra and The Duchess of Gloucester were also present at the Garden Party.
There were 8,000 guests in attendance, two military bands playing music alternately throughout the afternoon, individual presentations were made and of course tea was served!
Barnardo’s Chief Executive, Javed Khan, said: “In this special year, our 150th anniversary, we are taking the time to reflect on the millions of children helped by Barnardo’s in the past, present and into the future. The garden party was a way of thanking our staff, volunteers and stakeholders for all the hard work and incredible effort they give to Barnardo’s every year. The event was supported by some of our major donors, and we were delighted our Patron, the Duchess of Cornwall, was able to join us on the day.”
GANF pupil, Matthew, had a fantastic time, “It was a really good day and I met Princess Alexandra! I really liked meeting her and I loved the whole day. We ate some really nice cakes and had a cup of tea”.
